Many Pilates Studios use a famous quote of Joseph Pilate, before beginning class. It goes like this: “In 10 sessions, you feel better, 20 sessions you look better, 30 sessions you have a completely new body.” This was actually something he promised those who trained with him! Some of his other famous quotes are: “If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.” Another oft repeated quote of his was: “I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.” He said this in 1965, at the ripe age of 86.

In modern times, celebrity Pilates trainer, Siri Dharma Galliano, who has his own Pilates studio in Los Angeles, speaking to Web MD, states, “It is an education in body awareness… It changes your shape by educating you in daily life. When you’re cooking, brushing your teeth — the lessons are coming home to pull your stomach in and pull your shoulders down. There is an attention required (in doing the exercises) that changes your awareness.”
