How to get more leads from the website you already have

Short answer: Most websites can win more leads without more traffic: make the headline say what you do and where, add tap-to-call and a short form on every page, show specific proof near the call to action, answer pricing and process questions up front, speed up the mobile site and reply to every enquiry within minutes.

Buying more traffic for a website that converts poorly is pouring water into a leaky bucket. Before you spend on ads or SEO, fix the leaks. These twelve changes are the ones we see make the most difference on small business sites.

Make it obvious

  1. Rewrite the headline. What you do, for whom, where. “Family dentist in North Austin, accepting new patients” beats “Smiles that last”.
  2. One primary action per page. Decide whether you want a call, a booking or a quote request, and make that button the most visible thing on the page.
  3. Repeat the action. After the hero, after the service details, after the proof, and at the bottom. People decide at different points.

Remove friction

  1. Tap-to-call on mobile. A phone number that is plain text forces visitors to copy and paste. Make it a link, and keep it in the header on phones.
  2. Shorten forms. Name, phone or email, and one question about the job. Ask the rest when you call back.
  3. Offer a booking link if your work suits scheduled calls or appointments.
  4. Speed up the mobile site. Slow pages lose visitors before they read anything. See Core Web Vitals for small business.

Build trust where people hesitate

  1. Put proof next to the button. A short, specific review or a rating from your Google profile beside the call to action reassures at the moment of decision.
  2. Answer price and process questions. A price, a range or a clear “how we quote” paragraph filters out poor-fit leads and encourages good ones.
  3. Show real people and real work. Your team, your vehicles, your finished jobs. Stock photos signal nothing.

Close the loop

  1. Reply fast. Set up instant email or text alerts for new enquiries and an automatic confirmation that tells the visitor when you will be in touch.
  2. Track what works. Count form submissions, calls from the site and bookings as conversions in Google Analytics, so you know which pages and sources bring leads, not just visitors.

Where to start

If you only do three things this week: rewrite the home page headline, add tap-to-call, and cut your contact form to three fields. Then check your enquiry alerts actually arrive.

Lead capture is built into every site we make, and the AI Website Upgrade adds an assistant that answers common questions and collects details while you are busy. For a new site with hosting and updates included, see the $1,950 package.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good conversion rate for a small business website?

It varies widely by industry, traffic source and what counts as a lead. Rather than chase a benchmark, measure your own rate (leads divided by visitors) and improve it month on month.

Are chat widgets worth it?

They can help if someone answers quickly or an assistant handles routine questions well. A chat box nobody monitors does more harm than good. Also check it does not slow the page down.

How quickly should I respond to a website enquiry?

As fast as you realistically can, ideally within minutes during business hours. Many buyers contact several businesses and go with whoever replies first.
